Stone for a Lifetime

Although this project is not quite complete you can easily see all the detail that the stone presents.  The limestone arch pieces were as much as 1200lbs. each.  This is a Young and Young Architects project that was of the most complicated.  The scale and size of the stones were paramount to the success of the project.  Much of the stone on this house will last many lifetimes.

Frank Rewold and Son was the general contractor with Dan Nelson as the superintendent.  The project went very smoothly with all the complications.  The design was amazing the management was great  and the limestone was impeccably produced by Genesee Cut Stone.

Albaugh Masonry Stone and Tile Inc. feels very fortunate to be able to complete this project.

BEFORE AND AFTER FIREPLACE INSTALLATION

Before starting this project the owner contacted Albaugh Masonry Stone and Tile Inc.  by referral from the architect.   The architect of this house was Lou DesRosier of DesRosier Architects.  Your architect is a good place to start when looking for qualified trades.  They have probably already had or seen success from a specific trade.  If you are building your dream home or trying to get a detail just right then the right installation company is paramount to make the right design and execution come together.

This project has many things to consider.   You have the fireplace opening, the T.V. opening then the hanging of the mantle and the hearth.  As well you have the thin stone to match the stone on the exterior on both sides  of the fireplace.and interior corners of the room.

Complete Fireplace Project

This fireplace project was referred to me by the Architect Lou DesRosier at DesRosier Architects in Bloomfield Hills.  Lou is a second generation architect who has such a great passion for his work that he is revered by clients and trades alike.  I have been in his office multiple times to watch him tirelessly go through drawings to make sure the details will be executed correctly.  I feel very fortunate to know Lou and even more fortunate to be referred by him.

This client was an extremely educated man who really wanted to make this fireplace work.  He was passionate and determined throughout the whole process.  I really appreciate these kinds  of clients because they want what I want and that is an installation that is done well and follows the intent of the plan.  Therefore by following the plan it will become as beautiful as the drawing indicates.

This was a complicated fireplace as we had to install steel support for the floating mantle system.  This can create difficulty as the stone is extremely heavy.  That is where we really show our skill and passion for what we do.  By fabricating the steel support and integrating it into the house structure we were able to install the limestone and make an opening for the new media cabinet built by Gary Nielson.

ROCHESTER HOME GETS NEW FRONT ENTRANCE

This home was plagued with some severe water problems.  There was leaking over the bay window and as well over the entry.  The leaking had caused some structural damage to the entrance roof areas around the door.

The owner then decided to upgrade the entire front with this new limestone entrance and bay window.  The upper window above the entrance was replaced as well as the sill of the tri-window above the bay.  All this work was instrumental in fixing the water damage.  The owner as well decided to add the new walls to the landscape out front and a new bluestone porch and walk with a new heated granite drop off.

The project was designed by Young and Young architects.  The general contractor was Mike Hornung from Pyramid Interiors.  Albaugh Masonry Stone and Tile Inc. provided all the labor and materials to make the changes.  Genesee Cut Stone fabricated all the limestone.

Masonry has been around for thousands of years and has gone through many styles and cultures.  However the fact remains it is still the most useful building material with the longest life  cycle.  Above all else it is the best medium for artistry on your home or office.  Along with its unparalleled usefulness it is can create such beautiful designs.

The project below was a combination of Brown County Stone from Indiana,  Indiana limestone and brick capping.  The project was designed by Mark Johnson.  The general contractor was Mosher Dolan.

These are great projects for a company like Albaugh Masonry Stone and Tile Inc. as we are capable of all the types of masonry needed on this project.
